Herbatonin

Melatonin was first discovered in plants in 1995 and is bio-identical to human melatonin (Dubbels et al., 1995; Hattori et al, 1995). Herbatonin® is the first phyto or plant melatonin product introduced as a nutraceutical using rice (Oryza sativa Jarrah), alfalfa (Medicago sativa) and chlorella (Vulgaris Beyerinck). As research into melatonin expands beyond its traditional function as a hormone and sleep, increasing numbers of studies into its antioxidant, cellular and anti-inflammatory properties have appeared and the resulting impact on many different aspects of health.

Due to the complex and sometimes unique combination of synergistic therapeutic compounds found in plants, phyto sources of melatonin could be even more beneficial than singular synthetic sources. Our research is focused on exploring that potential and comparing both different sources of phyto-melatonin and synthetic melatonin.
